Rollsigns from Newmarket, ON
This mylar side rollsign
was created by using vinyl
stickers for each of the
black exposures, and
hand painted "TRANSIT"
and "CHARTER"
expsoures. It has no print
date, but with having the
"North Route" and "South
Route" exposures, dates it
to after the absorbsion of
Aurora Transit, which was
on August 30, 1999.

Public transportation in the area of Newmarket began with the Toronto and York Radial Railway Company
from 1899 to 1930. The modern Newmarket Transit was operated for the city by Laidlaw Inc. during its
entire operation. On August 30, 1999, Newmarket Transit absorbed the operations of the two route
system,
Aurora Transit, and over time expanded service to provide better cross boundary service to the town.
Finally, on January 1, 2001, Newmarket Transit combined with the other services of York Region,
Markham Transit, Richmond Hill Transit and Vaughan Transit to create what is now York Region Transit.
