Rollsigns from York Region, ON
Newmarket - North Division
When York Region Transit was formed in 2001, services in the Newmarket area were provided by First
Student (formerly Laidlaw) out of a yard on the northeast corner of Mulock Drive and Kent Drive in Newmarket.
After 85 days of labour issues, the contract with First Transit was terminated on January 16, 2012. TOK
Transit, a subsidiary of the Tokmakjian, took over the contracted service on January 26, 2012. They operate
out of the former GO Transit garage and the BRT (VIVA) garage off Yonge Street just north of Aspenwood
Drive. York Region purchased the former GO Transit property in 2015 after GO Transit built a new facility in
east Newmarket. The BRT services moved to a new central facility in Richmond Hill in June of 2015.
The York Region Transit mylar front rollsign (left) is the first version rollsign printed
for Newmarket-Aurora Division. It is dated May 27, 2002 and has 27 exposures. The
side mylar (right, which has been enlarged slightly for detail) is dated April 8, 2004
and has 36 exposures. Their respective sign tags are shown below.
