Chicago's former North Avenue carhouse and garage was located at 4801 W. North Ave. on the
southwest corner of N. Cicero Ave. Originally opening in 1910, the facility first housed streetcars. Later,
electric trolley buses operated out of the garage until March 25, 1973, and after that the early GM New
Look, Flxible New Look, and Flyer diesel buses. The garage eventually closed on September 7, 1986
and Its bus fleet and routes were dispersed to other area garages. The garage was then demolished
sometime in the late 1980s or early 1990s. Today, the property is now a strip mall, and the few remnants
of the old garage that still existed, such as the old trolley wire supporting light poles along North Street
west from Cicero Ave. still stood until the late 2010s, when they too were removed and replaced.
